Wesleyan Center for the Study of Guns and Society
In 2022, a white teenager opened fire at a Tops Friendly Supermarket in a Black neighborhood in Buffalo, New York, killing 10 African Americans and wounding another 3 people.. On behalf of the Wesleyan Center for the Study of Guns and Society, we are providing background research for a series of documentary films that will focus on the legal and community response to this horrific shooting. We are compiling materials on the history of segregration and racially discriminatory public policy in Buffalo, documenting the city’s history of racial and gun violence, and uncovering stories of Black community organizations. Working closely with the film production team, we have created a database of video, audio, and visual materials for them to draw on as the project progresses. Our work has also included preparing a series of white papers offering historical context on key topics related to the film’s subject matter.
“Throughout the entire process, they have been incredibly responsive, organized, and always ahead of the game, even with a tight schedule.”
