Wilson Bruce Evans House

Oberlin, Ohio

The Wilson Bruce Evans House will open as a historic site and educational center. Photos of the house by Tanya Rosen-Jones.

Built in the mid-19th century by a free Black family and maintained for generations, the Evans House will connect Oberlin’s African American abolitionist history with the ongoing struggle for social justice. Building on the work already undertaken by the Evans HHS Board and project team, we developed a master plan for the site that integrated the museum's vision with the physical site, the visitor experience, exhibits, and programs. We synthesized input from descendants, board members, and the local community into specific goals for the permanent exhibition, offered guidance on the operations, and organized content into a framework to support the visitor experience sought by the Evans board.
